Girls U19 Intercounty Final!!!

The team arrived on Sunday all well rested from the day before wondering who their opponents would be in the final. It turned out to be North Wales who beat Gloucestershire 3-2 the day before in the semis. We played North Wales in the 2nd stage of the inter-county earlier this year, winning 3-2. However, North Wales were missing their #1 and #2 due to the European U19 championships.

The Cheshire team decided they needed a good warm-up before their match, which included doubles and Donkey. After that we all received Easter eggs with our name on them for getting to the final, which we were all very grateful for.

Anyway, back to the squash, Olivia and Emily went on first. Olivia played well playing some awesome drop shots. However, she worried some of us as she was game ball down in the 3rd, but she won it back to take the match 3-0.

Emily also played extremely well with some deadly cross-court kills and boasts that her opponent struggled with. She won 3-0.

Next on was Lucy who played steady squash, dominating the T and forcing mistakes from her opponent. She won 3-0, securing the title for Cheshire!!!

Rachael was next on who played steady, controlling squash beating her opponent 3-0 for points.

Last on was Kirsty who also won 3-0 after a slow start.

So a 5-0 sweep for Cheshire, not even dropping a game!!!

This is the first time Cheshire has won the Girls U19 title (according to the final, which started in 1975) but hopefully not the last!

I would just like to thank the parents for getting us all to Sportcity: Liz, Su, Jen, Phil, Craig and Rodders.

Also thank you to the team who played extremely well throughout all 3 stages (Rachael, Lucy, Emily and Olivia).

I’m extremely proud that Cheshire has managed to win the title and just a massive thank you to all that have made this possible.

With 3 players from this team playing next year and others waiting in the wings hopefully we will make the final next year.
